Slamdance Grand Jury Winner Signs with Film Threat DVD
Debra Eisenstadt’s 2001
Award-Winning Film “Daydream Believer” to be Released
on Film Threat DVD
Los Angeles – Film Threat DVD, the home entertainment division of popular
online cinema magazine Film Threat (www.filmthreat.com), proudly announces the
signing of filmmaker Debra Eisenstadt and her Slamdance Grand Jury winning film, “Daydream Believer” for
DVD distribution.
The film tells the story of
Valerie, an actress in a small-town theater group in Vermont who gets “discovered”
by a New York City actor. She abandons her fiance and
friends to move to the big city to follow her dream and, once there, realizes
that things are not exactly the way she had always imagined them. Sybil Kempson plays the lead role of Valerie in the 79 minute DV
feature that was Eisenstadt’s graduate thesis during
her time at the New School University in Manhattan. Since winning the Grand
Jury Prize for Best Dramatic Feature at the 2001 Slamdance
Film Festival, “Daydream Believer” had a limited cable run on Showtime and Eisenstadt went on to win an Independent Spirit Award as “Someone
to Watch” in 2002.
”Daydream Believer” joins the
ever-growing ranks of Film Threat DVD films to be released in the upcoming
year, alongside Nick Clark’s “The Ultimate Truth”, Jonathan and Matthew
Friedman’s “Moving” and founder Chris Gore’s short film “Red”, to name a few.
“It was a crime that “Daydream
Believer” didn’t have DVD distribution already, and we are ecstatic that we get
to be the ones to remedy that,” states Film Threat DVD’s Head of West Coast
Acquisitions, Mark Bell. “Debra represents the best type of creative
independent filmmaker right now, the writer/producer/director/editor, and we’re
happy to be supportive of that.”
When asked about her
distribution deal, Eisentadt, who as an actress
garnered a grand reputation for her role as the title character in the theater
and film version of David Mamet’s “Oleanna,” remarked, “Finally….a fun DVD for anyone who’s
had to come to terms with their own mediocrity.”
The Film Threat DVD Special
Edition of “Daydream Believer” is set to include a filmmaker commentary among
other special features, and will be released in the Winter
of 2004.
Launched by Chris Gore and
Film Threat in 2003, the mission of Film Threat DVD is to distribute the

the publication into the digital world and launched it as one of the Internet's
first cinema-related web sites. In addition to running Film Threat, Chris Gore
